Federation with friendica workes perfect, if you join a lemmy community from friendica. You can post, vote (up/down) an comment from friendica and get new posts, and reactions.

But it works not the other was round you can join a group/forum from friendica on lrmmy. But further interaction is not working.

So i asked on friendica the day before yesterday, if it is on their site, but got now answer till today.

Federation with mastodon… mastodon does not know any kind of groups… so you can join a community from lrmmy as a “normal” user, an like/share and comment postings from lemmy, but you can not create a new posting in such a community from mastodons site.

Peertube: You csn join a peertube-channel, but you get no updates. You can search for a video-url and find it on lemmy.

Thats all i tried.

My wish is: better federation. 😊

You are right. Commenting an like/dislike works too.

But new videos are not federated to lemmy.

Im on 0.16.6 lemmy and 4.2 peertube.

So i tried more…

I created a Posting in a friendica-group with headline. In Lemmy i got the posting. I answerd in Lemmy, got the answer also in friendica. Another user from the group from a remote-instance commented in friendica -> No answer in lemmy from him.

So you can see, i can comment from friendica to your lemmy comment.

The other way round does not work.

You can join a friendica group, but no interaction gets federated.

Ah, so the other way around. Searching for a e.g. a Mastodon user handle in Lemmy, seeing their posts as a ‘community’. Though likely a different UI is needed. There would be no topic titles for Mastodon threads, for instance. Some other apps are already more community-like, as they support Group concepts, like Guppe.

Mike McGirvin of Hubzilla, and now developing Streams, posted about the difficulty of showing Titles in forum-like UI’s for posts coming from apps that don’t support them. See: this SocialHub comment.

Might be, though a slightly different UI that shows the first N chars of a toot might then work better to give a bit of context. You might also extract hashtags and show them in the list view.

Btw, talking Hashtags… these could be supported by Lemmy as well, which is currently not the case. And specific hashtag might be chosen to show as Community, e.g. recently there was #Fedicamp2022

Social Media Reimagined

This is a companion to Fediverse Futures on Social Coding to elaborate the Fediverse from high-level, non-technical perspectives, brainstorming our visions and dreams.

We need a more holistic approach to fedi development and evolution. We need product designers, graphics artists, UX / UI / Interaction designers, futurists and visionaries to join the dev folks. Everyone is encouraged to join here and enrich our views on what Fediverse can be with diverse and different viewpoints, and to stimulate brainstorming, creativity, thinking out-of-the-box and crazy, wild ideas.

Some guidelines

  • Choose a descriptive title that speaks for itself.
  • Be substantive in your comments and stay on-topic.
  • Treat others as you want to be treated, respectful.
  • Don’t be overly critical, we are just brainstorming.
