@meloo What about cooperative gameplay? Instead of instances fighting against each other, then could collaborate to attain a common shared goal?

all-in for a coop game!

@meloo For example, each instance is represented as a plot of land, and players can plant beautiful flowers in their instance garden

(I’m the person OP was made on behalf of, quoted from a matrix message.) I specifically wanted the main mechanic to require inter-instance interaction. Tribes fighting each other is the simplest trapping for that. Trying to do it in a co-op game would require something along the lines of trading, eg. every instance generates its own unique ecosystem and the goal is to catch 'em all. (Reminder that PoGO had those continental uniques - I didn’t pay much attention to that game’s community, because, well, PoGO isn’t really a team game, but I wonder how well that actually worked.) As an aside, “planting flowers” sounds like the stereotypical game idea from someone that doesn’t play games, and, well, kinda boring. And I’m a huge fan of the botanist from WC3’s Terrania Defence. I am not against co-op games, or even gardening games, per se. But for this goal, I think a co-op game would be very difficult. But you got me interested in it now. Most of the above was with it in mind. But I think I’d leave it to someone else to do - I’ll happily be a sounding board, but I don’t think I can be interested enough to do it justice. I definitely want to figure out some sort of co-op game on fedi, but I’ll put a different theme on it. (And lower priority, I’ve got other things I want to do first.)

ED: Apologies for the spam. I am trying to figure out how the lemmy api works. So far I conclude it doesn’t.

I’m not sure I’d describe that as peace gaming so much as arcade, high-score, or shmup. In other words, I’m not sure what you mean. Do you have any examples?

(BGG is not a particularly usable website, I discovered today.) Glancing over the wiki article, it would encounter the problem I skirted around in the other comment, that it won’t scale well to interacting with ~1000 instances. But this was mentioned as an example of peace gaming. Hmm… It’s a limited amount of players, and has an end condition. Both of these are not very compatible with encouraging inter-instance interaction; in particular, the combination of “everyone is playing the same board” and “that board is permanent” makes it a lot easier to designate different instances as different places on that board. I guess… With all three constraints you get Cookie Clicker MMO? Which probably already exists, and I can see how it would be addictive. Idle games in general wouldn’t be too hard to make as fedi bot games.

Apologies if this post comes out weird, I’m having fun with bash.

@narF @meloo Just like you would subscribe to a mastodon account from another instance : you type @fediversefutures@lemmy.ml in Mastodon’s search bar to see the community’s profile (unfortunately Mastodon doesn’t support the ! for groups, so cannot deal with a user and a community having the same name. Friendica does)

@meloo you can formally follow a Lemmy user from Mastodon or Friendica, but I’m not sure whether updates really go in your timeline as I don’t follow any active lemmy user

User following is not implemented on the Lemmy side. It will appear to work from Mastodon, but really you wont receive anything.

@meloo I didn’t. The boosted post appeared in my timeline and I just replied to it from my mastodon account. I didn’t create a new account.

Is that a problem? Did I do something wrong?

@meloo Yeah, I think that Lemmy and Mastodon speak the same federation languages, so they can talk to each other. That’s the Fediverse! (Federated Universe)
