Make a beehaw twitter account for promotional reasons?
Doesn't really matter if it's officially beehaw or not, fan accounts exist. Afaik fan accounts exist on twitter for hexbear: https://twitter.com/Hexbear_io https://twitter.com/chapo_chat Similar to elon, posts on twitter dont have to be about any topic in particular. Eventually an enemy of the bees will make a fake official looking beehaw acct to make the bees look bad. I would do it, but i don't toot or tweet enough. But i will subscribe to you if you make an acct. Could even do it as a join acct to enable enough daily action There is a beehaw redddit account: https://www.reddit.com/user/beehaw-lemmy there are also (official?) wolfballs and lemmygrad promotional reddit accounts.

When there's some juicy gossip about you, take a page from USA nuclear policy to get out of it
"As I'm sure you know, it's policy to neither confirm or deny the presence of specific news concerning my person" From John Kirby's: "As I'm sure you know, it's US policy to neither confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons at any specific location " 😆 I do intend to say this line cross-posted from: https://lemmy.perthchat.org/post/207972 > - John Kirby

I've been wondering about these questions for a while now but the docs were scarce. 1. Does loading an image (cache/thumbnail) from external hosting takes up any server storage? If so, is it cleaned up when original image deleted? 1. Do (internally hosted) "orphan" images (not linked to any post/comments) get deleted? 1. Any recommendations for image hosting? Preferably freemium+donation based, open source, able to keep spinning until end of times -- all that jazz 1. In relation to creating posts on lemmiverse: any hints for streamlined workflow uploading images to external hosting? (bookmarklets, scripts, custom frontends) 1. Are there any promising Lemmy initiatives for optimizing storage usage? Got any questions of your own about image hosting? Let's hear it

what drugs do libertarians do?
cross-posted from: https://slrpnk.net/post/215588 > Since they talk about 100% productivity, prob stims. Sedatives/tranquilizers to sleep afterwards? > > Antidepressants? Since feeling emotions and being a human machine sounds depressing.

The are not downvotes on Beehaw, however I can downvote post from another instance. Do downvotes count to the algorithm's score on Beehaw?
[edit] Just to clarify - I don't like downvotes and would be utterly happy if they were disabled as much as it's possible.

Do we have any sublemmies designed to cater to bigger social medias? Ex findasubreddit, but on lemmy?
Ex findasubreddit, but on lemmy. So instead of posting to like r/findasubreddit, one posts to c/findasubreddit and uses that to find a subreddit. Since, imo, esp for niche topics, the lemmyverse isn't big enough to stand on it's own. But the lemmyverse could still reduce the number of posts to say reddit. Prob possible to use it for like other platforms, like follow for follow instagram hashtags.

When Beehaw was first launched our disk usage (physical space on the server) was approximately 45%. Right now we are up to 72% and this will continue to climb over time. At the moment, I can only see two options. Firstly, go up an additional tier with our server host which would increase the monthly hosting cost. Secondly, figure out a way to remove old and inactive posts. Hopefully, there is a batch process for this or something similar. I'm not an expert in this area, sadly. What are your thoughts?

Recommend me audio books
Fiction, non horror. Young adult stuff could be fine, but no like books aimed at like folks younger than that. Preferably not like detailed violence or detailed sex scenes. For movies I generally like dramas, but i dont consume books so I don't know what kind of books I'd like.

When one is the subject of love bombing it is really hard to "feel" the downsides of it It's very easy to go down the path of logic and keep telling myself typical rational mantras, but this doesn't exactly help on the emotional level We all seek love and, however unhelpful, love bombing does provide it. Which puts me in a weird conundrum -- why shouldn't I accept love when I clearly need it Do you have any tips or stories how you've let go of love bombing addiction? > Credit for the pic goes to original artist Nacho Arjona | naolito.com

I've made an account at Mastodon
My profile is [here](https://masto.ai/@remington). I, mainly, set this up to see how Mastodon interacts with the rest of the Fediverse including Lemmy. So far, I'm impressed with the simplicity and functionality of Mastodon.

Have any thoughts on how/why netizens end up having such extreme positions compared to the mostly offline normie population?
offline normie population = only online to post selfies and food shots on instagram/bigtech Like sheer fact that I'm ok with trans ppl being trans people is sorta extremism in my city.

This is both scary and infuriating.

The wave of new people on Mastodon doesn't seem to end
Until now Mastodon has done marvelously well but I'm kind of worried how long it can continue do so. The influx of people from the bird side is far from over or so it seems. ![](https://beehaw.org/pictrs/image/3a19d629-fbc5-4fc4-b52b-47c1f7e1b359.png)

We’re a collective of individuals upset with the way social media has been traditionally governed. A severe lack of moderation has led to major platforms like Facebook to turn into political machinery focused on disinformation campaigns as a way to make profit off of users. Websites with ineffective moderation allow hate speech to proliferate and contribute to the erosion of minority rights and safe spaces. Our goal with Beehaw is to demonstrate and promote a healthier environment.

Some thoughts on our philosophy:

Operating our server costs money. If you donate, you should know that 100% of the costs will go towards server time, licensing costs, and artwork. In the future if we need to hire developers or other labor, it would be sourced through the Open Collective Foundation, and it would be transparent to the community before any changes were made.

As a news aggregator and a social media outlet, with a focus on being a safe and accepting space, we strive to create a positive social impact. We will, also, help to connect underprivileged and minority individuals with education and civic participation by promoting a healthier online experience.
